Planning Insights:

6 months at planning

In order to achieve planning we had to provide a design that would respect the site's surroundings and fit into it's context. It was important to build something that was low in form given there are few surrounding buildings, and use simple detailing externally. The planners were supportive of this design and ultimately gave it approval.

Project Challenges

A rural context

There are very few houses around so it was important to design a house that didn't stand too tall, and used materials familiar to the local context.

Access to site

The access was carefully considered for the build, ensuring that the kit could be safely delivered, along with site facilities to help with the erection. A site visit was conducted at the start.

Healthy internal environments

It was important for the client to have a low energy and healthy house. The design accommodates this with plenty of glazing, high levels of insulation, underfloor heating and an air source heat pump.
